If you like having a magical beach experience during the night, this is a place for you!

Interpretive nature of the Bioluminescent Mosquito Bay

Mosquito Bay is one of travelers' favorite experiences in Puerto Rico.

Hidden along the Caribbean coast is one of the most spectacular Bioluminescent Bays in the world. The mysterious blue-green light is created by micro-organisms which thrive in an environment uniquely suited to their needs. A trip into the bay on a balmy night is a magical experience

During the day, Mosquito Bay is your stereotypical Caribbean hideout-- but at night, the sky and waters emit a bluish glow from the half-plant, half-animal microorganisms that live there. According to the bay's website, there are more than 700,000 bioluminescent dinoflagellates in each gallon of bay water, and recent travelers that have swum amongst them are amazed by just how much visibility these tiny creatures provide. Avoid visiting the bay during a full moon; the microorganisms aren't as visible then.
