With Tibet offering mountain climbers three peaks to scale, altitude sickness remains a common phenomenon when in the country.

The Himalayas in Tibet

Tibet has always been an enchanting territory of China, and the fact can’t be denied that setting one’s foot on this country gives a person the opportunity to cross the threshold of a completely different world.

Nonetheless, all the beauty that Tibet offers may not be fully enjoyed if you’ve been struck by altitude sickness, which is the human body’s response to the decreased amounts of oxygen due to high altitudes.

So to further make your Tibetan experience more positive and memorable (in a good way that is), you need to know how to avoid altitude sickness when climbing one of Tibet’s summits.

* Travelers who suffer from respiratory problems, such as asthma, and other circulatory diseases like high blood or anemia shouldn’t continue with their trip unless they are back in good health again. The same piece of advice should be followed by climbers who have health problems in the kidney and liver.

* Pack an adequate amount of water, fruits and chocolates to provide you with enough fluid and sufficient energy from their high caloric content.

* A day prior your climb or as you arrive in Tibet, don’t engage on any type of strenuous activities like running or walking. You should also steer clear of too much food, alcohol or nicotine.

* In the event that your body starts feeling really uncomfortable, immediately inform your tourist guide so that he could get you checked up in the nearest hospital as soon as possible.

* Experiencing shortness of breath is common, but if this is not that grave at all, it is suggested not to constantly depend on the oxygen device because doing so would make it too long for you to acclimate your body to the high elevation pressure.

* Lastly, don’t take a bath during your very first night in Tibet to further prevent catching colds.

So don’t forget to keep in mind these pieces of advice so that you could effectively avoid altitude sickness during your visit to Tibet.
